How to Clean a Greasy Coffee Maker and Carafe

When you find your coffee maker one day with too much grease than you know what to do with, it calls for an intensive cleaning process. The thing about coffee machine is, it cannot be cleaned properly with just dishwashing liquid. Maybe for the detachable parts it can be cleaned but not the inside and the waxy interior of the machine. Grease often stays behind.

To help you out in this dilemma, here is a step by step procedure on how to remove accumulated coffee oil:

Step 1: Mix one part of white vinegar with one part of water. If this is a strong solution, you can just mix one part of white vinegar with two parts of water. Pour the solution in the water tank of the brewer.

Step 2: Place coffee filter but without the beans. The goal here is to let the vinegar solution pass inside the brewer. Vinegar has the ability to dissolve whatever gunk is inside the brewer-coffee oil, lime deposits or molds. Once the parts are in their right places, you can plug the machine and start the brewing functions.

Step 3: Allow it to finish cleaning the interior of the machine. It should drip right to the carafe. You will start to notice oil floating on the brewed vinegar solution which is a good sign. This means, the residues are removed. You can try this method one more time to further clean the interior of the machine.

Step 4: Discard the contents of the machine. Now, pour clean water on the water reservoir. Let it pass inside the brewer. This will rinse off vinegar taste. Discard brewed water.

Step 5: Once this is done, unplug the machine and let it cool. While you are letting it cool, mix warm water with baking soda. Mix it well. Wash the carafe with the baking soda solution. This will further remove stains and oil residues. Follow it up with soapy rinsing. Wash it carefully until baking soda and soap are fully removed.

Step 6: When the brewer has already cooled down, wipe the exterior with the vinegar solution. Just dampen a clean towel with the solution and wipe it on the outer shell of the machine. This will remove the grease further. Afterwards, wipe it with clean towel dampened with water.

Step 7: Let the parts dry completely before assembling the machine back again.

Now your brewer is officially grease-free!
